I have a really nice pair of penny loafers I paid about $175 for a
couple years ago. I wore the thin, "stylish" leather soles right out, so
I took them up to a local mall and "got an estimate" for new non-leather
soles and heels. $50. The shoes were otherwise in great shape. Got them
back, looked like new again.

Last I had re-soled was a pair of heavy duty wingtips. From leather
to non-leather. Even the thick leather had holed quickly.
About 1990, about 25 bucks.
Can't even remember seeing a shoe repair shop since then.

We have a Korean run shoe shop in a little shopping center close by. I've
had shoes, club head covers, and even the boat winch strap repaired there.
They've hemmed pants and put leather elbows in my old Harris Tweed. If you
can find a Korean shoe or upholstery shop, they can do anything.

When you go in say, "An-yung ha-say-o", bowing the head a little. You'll
soon make friends with them.
