Default Flying Pig Float Plan

Hi, Y'all,

I'm amused that my float plan, apparently generally unread for content
until lots of commentary led folks to go back and read, generated 64
entries, but all the daily logs only one.

Even more amused that all the faux pas, stupid pet tricks, perhaps
easily avoidable junk, and other very suggestive content in said logs,
none.

Not complaining - just amused. Glad you all had fun with it while we
were out there doing it.

Also glad that you've all seemed to enjoy our SPOT tracks; we've
certainly enjoyed that folks like you and our families have some more
immediate view of where we are. FWIW, West is having a killer sale on
them at the moment; 100 instead of 150, a free year's subscription to
the tracking service, and a carrying case, plus some other coupon
freebie (don't recall if it's 30 bux or 30% for something). I was in
there today buying some oilsorb sheets and saw it at the counter. We
didn't get a case with ours, and happily paid our $150 plus the 100
subscription plus some bargain package on the other necessary item
otherwise $50...

Enjoying the rain and the wind in Charleston while we attend to some
minor boat chores and electronics games with Larry, another of our
angels. We'll be heading out either direct to MIA or with a stopover
in Saint Simons Island to help repay one of our Saints for all his
helps, when the weather's right. Immediate forecasts are fairly
stiff, and not particularly good for our course of travel...

Flying Pig Float Plan

We're going from Sandy Hook, NJ, to Miami, preferably in one
jump. Barring last minute warnings against it, we're leaving
Wednesday Oct. 1, PM.

Based on the recommendations from Chris Parker, our weather
consultant, for favorable winds and seas, we'll go on a rhumb
line, the outward curve through Barnegat Bay excepted, from Sandy
Hook NJ to Cape Hatteras, the first large jump being about 330
miles. We'll avoid, as much as possible any adverse current as seen
on these two sites:
https://oceanography.navy.mil/legacy.../145/0-0-17/24
and /32, plus http://rads.tudelft.nl/gulfstream/, as our course will
take us close to the Gulf Stream edge.

Once past Hatteras, we'll take another 300+mile jump to the GA coast
area, again to avoid the Gulf Stream. From there we'll take another
rhumb line run of about 300 miles to about West Palm Beach, avoiding
the Gulf Stream as seen in the above plus /16, the southern portion,
which shows that a straight line would have us crossing the Gulf
Stream's adverse current. Once in the West Palm Beach, or so, area,
we'll have to stay close to shore, as the Gulf Stream is very close
in
that area.

Sailmail (over SSB radio) contact will be available through my
son David , in the event of emergency. You'll
be able to track our progress on our SPOT shared page,
http://share.findmespot.com/shared/f...PLcZGvSb3 nMe
if you're interested. We'll also send "OK" messages via Spot on a
daily basis to our primary family, as before.

We intend daily reports via sailmail, as well as having our SPOT
(http://share.findmespot.com/shared/f...PLcZGvSb3 nMe)
on continuously during our passage.

At this time weather, wind and currents all look very good for
our passage, but in the event that changes, or there are
equipment difficulties which suggest otherwise, we'll not
hesitate to come in from wherever we are at the time.

See our log listings for the daily reports...
