I know one stump that was without question smarter than Bert Robbins
(BAR). Until recently, I had a "relationship" with a tree stump named
"Stumpy." He was for several years the platform on which we placed
paper
targets and empty soda and beer cans for pistol and rifle target
practice. Old Stumpy managed to duck and weave when the lead was
flying.
Though Stumpy was not in the Marine Corps, he saw a hell of a lot
more
action than BAR, who was in the Marines, did.

It took a Caterpillar with a big blade to finally do Stumpy in and make
room for a drain field. We poured a fresh beer on him first so that
he'd
