Default Design for 16' motor/sailer camper?

wrote in message . ..
I am looking for a design for an easy-to-build camping boat that has
the following characterisitcs:

1. 14-16 foot, lightweight and beachable
2. Simplist plywood construction possible
3. Cat rig
4. A mast that hinges down for motoring
5. Ablity to plane with small outboard motor

Some covered stowage area and floatation would also be nice.

Has anyone seen ready-made plans for anything lile this, or something
that could be easily modified to suit?

Thank you for your reply.

Robert Martin

Look at the 14 foot semi-dory in John Gardners' book, "The Dory Book".
It could be modified and made of S+T, it sails, and a 20 will make it
fly. There is also a 16 foot version in the book. It is designed as a
motorboat that was fitted later for sail if I remember correctly. Very
nice looking boat, I suggest you use the split mast "Gunter rig" type
mast setup seen in Gardners' "Dual purpose skiff", folds into three 10
foot sections (mast and boom). Remember, you are asking for the almost
impossible, you may have to give up one of your requirements, such as
"easy build" to get the tool you are looking for. Most boats can be
"easy" if you come armed with the proper tools, time, patience,
knowledge, and sometimes your hat in your hand...
