Taft, like Bakersfield, is hell on earth on a still day. There are enough
airborne volatiles that you can hardly breath.
Well, normal humans find it hard to tolerate. I don't think the locals even
notice.
They do contract nasty diseases in numbers that look a lot like Love canal,
however.
