After reading your input, and reviewing carefully the contract, and calling
a few places for information, and reading the contract again, we have
decided to exercise our seven day option of canceling the contract. So, a
certified letter went to the 1000Trails folks today doing so.

I found a few more discrepancies in what the contract said and what the
salesperson said. But, the big discrepancy was in the disclosure provided
by the salesperson. She did not give me the disclosure statement called for
in the contract.

So, now we see if they come up with some better offers. Thank God for the
seven day cancellation window mandated by Virginia. Although, without it I
wouldn't have signed the hard sell contract.

Thanks again for all the input!!

Hey, something "useful" happened in rec.boats. I knew there was hope.
BTW, I got a "little" interested in timeshares at St. Pete Beach,
where I rent a beachfront suite a couple weeks most years.
What I rent are timeshare units.
After just a bit of "investigation" I found companies that you PAY to
unload your timeshare.
It was a very easy decision to can the timeshare idea.
Of course it might work for some people in some circumstances, and I
don't know the camping end of it.
At St. Pete Beach the typical "family" houskeeping rental units
largely disappeared with hi-rise condos taking over.
But a little planning still allows you to reserve a place with no
problem at reasonable cost.
Not surprisingly down there, I can now get a more luxurious condo
rental for about the same price. Different ambience though.
Twenty-five years ago the timeshare sales people on Ft. Myers Beach
used to harass vacationers worse than Mexican peddlers on Ensada's
beaches.
I was lucky then - couldn't afford it.

Well, I figured the seven day deal would give me some time to get input and
research things. One of the things which helped in the decision is the
amount of campgrounds at military bases. I never knew there were so many.
Even Quantico has a very nice part with lake and amenities. We're going to
try the one at Ft. Story, Va, next.

We did have a great time this past weekend. I'll post some pics over at
Chuck's place when I get them downloaded.
