With Agent, you have the option of sending a post immediately, or
saving it in the outbox until you elect to send everything at once.
That way you can do the reading and writing offline.

You can do that with Mozilla Thunderbird, too, and probably several
other clients. But that doesn't mean it was the "trick" that was used.
