I'm 18, just bought my first boat, a used boat. I'm having some
electrical problems.
Namely, It is picky about when it wants to start or not.
Also, I ran it in my driveway, and I noticed that the battery
terminals were hot enough to burn.
I quickly shut it down, used pliers to disconnect the terminals, and,
am looking for some input and ideas on what might cause this.

Any help would be appreciated, and thanks ahead of time.

Shorted Diode rectifier put AC to the battery while it was running. It'll
kill the battery in a few minutes when it's not. While you've got the
flywheel off, look closely at the coils in the stator, they're probably
fried. Also, around the outside where the magnets whirl around the coils,
pay particular attention to the condition of the soft iron CORE the coils
are wound on. If it looks rusted, replace the stator and put a thin layer
of heavy grease on any exposed soft iron to prevent it just rusting up
again and shorting out your magnetic power. The diodes are probably under
or near the bad stator.
