Two different ships there. *LPD 21 is the USS New York. *LPD 17?

LPD 17 refers to the San Antonio, the first of that particular model,
and the namesake for the class of amphibious transport dock ships.
Interesting ship, but with very light defenses to ward off in-close
attacks such as you might encounter when offloading.

Not, however, as silly as the "stealth destroyer" (the DDG-1000 class),
which was designed without the ability to fight off anti-ship missiles.

Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (and Vice-Admiral) Barry McCullough
said the "stealth" DDG-1000 "cannot perform area air defense" at all.
$5 billion a copy. *Your tax dollars, ****ed away as usual by the DoD.

In a perverse way, there is some good coming out of the proliferation of
technology. Any semi-modern nation that wants them can develop or buy
the weaponry needed to blow ships out of the water or planes out of the
sky. As more and more nations get their hands on these goodies, more and
more of them will realize that the way to real peace is not through warfare.

$5 billion wasted on a useless ship. Imagine what you could do with $5
billion in some schitthole of a country where the population doesn't
have housing, potable water, schools, medicine.
