And...'pull chain' operated fans start at off - high speed-- med -low-- off
rotary button fans go from off - low - med - high and you reverse direction
to switch off.

Let's see... if 2 bits = $ .25 ........................

Then the natural progression would be 2 bits, 4 bits, 8 bits, 2
dollars...
