Well, to answer the question...
Now we know it is his. :)
According to the article you cited, the boat burns biodiesel at the
rate
of 2 gallons an hour...so...what's your point? Your little boat burns
more
fuel than that.
Is that at idle? Most houseboats 50-60' get about 1 mpg. Even doubling
the
mileage via diesel, sats the boat is going to go 4 mph to achive a 2
gallon
/per hour burn. And the boat is a lot bigger than the 1mpg ones.
Sounds bogus to me too. We rented a 65' on Lake Powell and it had two
4 stroke 60s on it (just like mine). At very close to WOT this thing
did about 8 MPH. From my experience with my engine I put the
consumption at 2x4GPH (8) or the 1 MPG you stated
My... you wouldn't want to cruise too far on that rig.
We went out of Page, cruised down about 3 "fingers" in the lake and it
took a couple hours.
It is really not bad because you really end up anchored up on the
beach anyway and you are just looking for a private one.
My only real gripe was you needed to get the 75' to get topside
steering so you are basically just a bus driver with no mirrors.
We really couldn't justify a 3 stateroom 75' boat for the two of us.
Thinking of doing a houseboat vacation on Powell with the kids and grandbaby
in maybe a year. Any good pointers? Will bring the jetboat also.
