Ever read Heller's Catch-22? Remember Major Major, the private promoted
to major while he was still in boot camp because of a calculating
machine error?
Well, Herring is Colonel Colonel in the Army of the Dwarfs.
In the movie made of Heller's book, Major Major was a captain, and the
laundry officer, until his major suddenly died and he was promoted on
the spot.
