The fender line devices are handy, but, IMO, a Clove Hitch is just as
fast and adjustable.
Personally, I don't do it like in the pictures attached. I tie them to
the vertical sections of the rail, near the base.

On sailboats we called them staunchions.

In the lower 48 we call them stanchions. They may be staunch; or not.
