Scared the crap out of me.
That's it. No more reading!
Back when I was 21 years old my reserve unit's squadron gunney told us
that the average time a USMC reservist collects retirement pay was 18
months. I decided that I would get out after my first hitch. I wanted to
live past 63 1/2.
My youngest brother retired from the Navy Reserves as an O-5. He'll start
drawing his pay in another 11 years. Because of the way they calculate the
pay, he's not too thrilled. He thought he'd get 50% of his base pay, but
it
actually works out to about 35%.
But, that'll be enough to pay his electric bill.
An 0-5's base pay is now about 7200 per month if they have over 4 years
enlisted service. That works out to be about $2500 per month if he was old
enough to retire now. In 11years the pay is likely to be more.
He should have enough to pay keep his lights on a few hours.
