You shouldn't ever have needed more than 2 tablespoons. Too much or twoo
little salt can damage the electrodes.
It seems this happened about the same time we started having a bunch
of oil. fuel and maybe chemical spills.
If this could be the case, electordes coated with oil, is it okay to
pump some Joy through it?
There are a couple of things going on here. Yours is an older L/S, and
electrode packs don't last forever...avg. about 6 years. So it may be
they're just worn out. The oil and chemicals in the water may or may not
be a factor...As long as any dishwashing liquid is used without running
the electrodes and completely rinsed, it shouldn't do any harm. However,
I'd think that two cleanings with muriatic acid would done enough, at
least temporarily, to reduce the amount of salt needed, so it's unlikely
that it'll solve your problem.
So I think you need to have a chat with Vic Willman at Raritan. He's the
tech services manager and has been there 36 years...the ONLY person at
Raritan to talk to 'cuz he's forgotten more about everything Raritan's
ever made than anyone else there has--or will--ever learn, plus he's a
super nice guy...he's my "guru" at Raritan. Give him call at
800-352-5630 x 6.
