I got a message saying I could not fetch due to too many connections. I
use Ouchlook Express as my reader - is there a setting I can use to make
this problem go away?

XNews: http://www.download.com/Xnews/3000-2164_4-10026377.html

Wouldn't want to miss a single word of your ineptitude filled diatribes.

From the XNews instruction manual:
a.. There is no connect/disconnect button. The program just connects when it
needs to and disconnects when you close the server or shut down the program.
Try to avoid opening too many simultaneous connections since this puts a
strain on the news server and slows down your own connections to boot. (If
the program is busy doing something and you open another group or read an
article or update message count, etc., it will have to open another
connection.) Per GNKSA requirement, Xnews limits you to 4 simultaneous
connections to the same news server. Be advised, however, that some servers
may set an even lower limit, such as 2 or 3.

OE tends to open a new connection everytime you change groups on the same
server. If you monitor a dozen groups on the server and you switch back and
forth liberally between them OE can easily have dozens of connections going
on. aioe hates this.

If you continue to use OE, limit your aioe session to one newsgroup at a
time. If you want to connect to another newsgroup on aioe first close OE,
then open it again and then open the next group you want to read or post to.
Kind of a pain in the butt. XNews limits you to four simultaneous
connections. After that it closes a connection prior to opening another.
Better.
