Newest US Coast Guard Cutter (0/1)
The newest cutter in the USCG fleet, the Maritime Security Cutter,
Large CGC Bertholf WMLC-750, arrived in Miami this morning. The
weather was not what the Chamber of Commerce would have liked.
The 418-foot "Legend" class cutter is named for the Commandant who in
1915 prevented ther dismantling of the "Revenue Cutter Service" by
joining it with the Lifesaving Service to become the modern day Coast
Guard. The second, Waesche, honors the WWII Commandant, and the third
is named for Revenue Cutter Service founder, Alexander Hamilton
The Bertholf is "In Commision", but will not be operational for
another 18 months...... training, operational trials, mission
equipment testing, aviation operations, etc.
