Alaska more than any of the other places. The San Juans and Canadian Gulf
Islands are mostly sheltered and you can check the weather before leaving a
port, or look at the seas. Lots of Wifi there also, so you can get the CG
reports also. If you had a coastal sailer and were going from California to
Canada via boat: yes, but for a trailer boat, you just check the weather
before leaving for the day. And if overnighting, you are going to be in the
sheltered islands, not out in the Pacific. Same with the West side of
Vancouver island, you are going to be inside in a sheltered area if
overnighting and you can check the weather at the local marina. Canada,
you are required to have a VHF license, but I have not ever been checked. I
think the license is still in the glove box, but have not checked in years.
