I was in Gaithersburg, MD (at NIST) for a few days and a friend called

I had never been there and I was very impressed. Being from Florida,
I was shocked at the number of empty slips until I realized that most
boats are not back in the water yet. Why not? The weather was
beautiful.
Anyway, I was very impressed by Annapolis.

You may have been looking at the slips along dock street, which are only
transient slips (hourly, as I recall).

The city does have a lot of charm and is a great place to spend a Saturday
walking around looking at the sights and enjoying the food, blue crab of
course. With the Chesapeake becoming the mess it is, blue crabs are getting
harder and harder to come by.
