Well, I was really frustrated with google for a while today and
yesterday. I had written a small trip report for another group and it
kept getting kicked back unposted. Google does not tell you why a
message gets kicked, it just does. Seems I had the words crap and
bull**** in the post and when I fixed that, all was well. Now I wonder
if it was all google groups or just that one so I am testing here, it
this posts, it's obvously just the group, but it's not moderated so I
don't know why, oh well, no one left here to offend anyway, so here is
my test post..

If you have a real news server you can say any ****ing thing you want.
Google is the AntiChrist

I read his explanation of why he didn't use a news server instead of
google groups and it made no sense to me.- Hide quoted text -

Ok, let me dumb it down for you... As you know we provide hosting
services to the public. Over the last decade we have been hooked by
several protocols, languages, software packages etc. that were
initially free only to start charging after we got our customers to
use it. Pricing only comes down on our type of service and we can not
very well compete if we start taking away services, so we end up
eating the cost of the package for the few customers who might use it.
Miva is a great example. We started offering the language and the
service packages available with it almost a decade ago. It is a
programming language used for business transactions over the net
mostly. This language requires we run a seperate engine on our servers
so customers can view and use files and forms on line. For a while the
engine was free, but once it caught on well, the company started
charging a lot for it. We only have a few customers who use it, but
they are long time customers so we bite the bullet. I am wondering how
much your precious readers will cost when the alternatives are all
gone.. That is all....
