On CNBC this morning, there was a segment on Vista and the guests to a
person said Vista is an unmitigated diaster and may be a sign of the
begining of the end for Microsoft as a market leader.

Well, they have one hell of a long way to go before they are not the
market leader, but . . .

With a several year build cycle for an OS, they sure as hell can't afford
to blow another one. It's also worth noting, MS Office 2007 isn't
burning up the sales either, and those are the only two product lines MS
makes money on.

It's a strange business at this point in time. MS has the home and
business market desktop market virtually locked up.
Computers are now doing just about everything that's being
asked of them. With XP. Where do they go?
They're trying to sell bells and whistles now it seems.
Unless there's something I can't see, which is entirely possible,
they've reached sort of a dead end.

There's an upstart little company out there packaging PCs that will run
on either MS or Apple operating systems... And the boxes they sell are
cheap.
