Good point. Liberals definitely DO set more store in feeling than in
thinking. After all, his kid deserves a ribbon or a medal because he
tried . . . You just can't go around letting kids figure out that just
trying ain't crap. Trying and succeeding is an achievement, though. But
you can't teach a kid that because he'll FEEL badly about himself if he
doesn't succeed. Nothing's more important than feeling good about
yourself even if it's based on a lie.

How pitiful is that? Brainwashing a kid. Warping his young mind. Making
it impossible for the kid to ever become a man or understand manly
things. It borders on the criminal IMHO. Would that there were more MEN
in this world!

Neal (Wilbur), what's your problem? You are totally obsessed with Joe,
condemning him for his actions even though you weren't there, and even
though Joe isn't here to defend himself. Shouldn't you at least admit that
you actually DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, and that you would
need to let him fill in the blanks regarding this very unfortunate
incident (since he WAS there). After all, Joe made a decision based on his
concern for his crew, in light of the conditions and circumstances at
hand, and he did so despite the fact that his decision (and did) result in
his losing his boat. Don't you have at least the slightest trace of
empathy for Joe's loss, and at least some faint recognition of his
sacrifice? Once again, YOU WEREN'T THERE, were you? - He was.

Incidentally, as noted above, we are still waiting to see pictures of your
new boat, with you at the helm. - Or do you have a boat? Incidentally,
have you considered getting some professional help with your condition?

My dear fellow! If you could follow a thread you would be able to ascertain
that, in this thread, I was responding to a lame insult that Bobsprit the
pretender proffered and another subscriber commented upon agreeing with my
point.

I don't think this is any indication that I am 'obsessed' with the captain
of the erstwhile "Red Cloud." And if you'd take the time to read and
understand my posting in another thread called "Lessons to be learned from
the wreck of the "Red Cloud," you just might find I never even mentioned the
name of the failed captain. And, this is what you call an obsession?

Try understanding the subject line even if you're incapable of understanding
the body of the post. Lessons to be learned perhaps might be called
criticism but obsession in not an appropriate word. When anybody screws up
badly and unnecessarily it is always beneficial to discuss the reasons why
if for no other reason than to give a heads up to those who might wish to
avoid being the cause of a similar such debacle.

You claim that I don't know what I'm talking about but nothing could be
further from the truth. It is precisely because I am extremely knowledgeable
and experienced at blue water sailing that I can recognize and describe
folly when I hear about it and see videos of it. Only the clueless could
look at those videos and conclude that the captain of the erstwhile "Red
Cloud" acted prudently for if he had acted prudently he and his vessel would
never have been in the predicament we saw them in. I did not have to be
there to understand what happened any more than you had to be at the
Superbowl to understand why New England got it's ass handed to them on a
silver platter by an inferior team.

I have absolutely NO empathy for the wreck of the "Red Cloud" since it was
totally avoidable and the result of ineptitude. It was a shameful episode of
cut and run. It is illustrative of today's liberal mentality that, more
often than not, results in failure. (That huge ensign flying in an
inappropriate place alone tells a tale of a lubber out of his element.
Unreefed mainsail and mizzensail with no staysail or jib confirms it.) What
was the captain thinking? It appears he wasn't thinking at all or, if he
was, he was incapable of action for whatever reason.) The bulk of the
journey confirms an unthinking captain. This is something that I cannot
abide especially when combined with his flippant attitude after the rescue
here in these very groups. He wasn't the least bit contrite and he was
already obfuscating and patting himself on the back for 'trying.'
Unacceptable behavior even for a lubber. For somebody who claimed to be a
blue water sailor it is inexcusable and embarrassing. Any real sailor would
have hidden his face in shame for at least a year or two.

As for pictures of my fine blue water yacht under sail and my doings aboard
her, forget about it! I sail for one reason and one reason alone and that is
for my own pleasure, accomplishment and fulfillment. To share my successes
with a bunch of liberal losers is to degrade the essence of why I sail - to
challenge myself and to succeed where most others fail or chicken out or
make excuses. To pen stories the likes of which today's liberal, girly,
sailing print media foist off as the norm is to degrade my chosen way of
life. I will never assist the destruction of what still is for some of us a
manly, independent, worthwhile and fulfilling way of life.

Would you care to share pictures and a detailed description of your
lovemaking with your wife or girlfriend? I don't think so because to do so
would degrade the intimacy and beauty of the act not to mention making a
whore out of your partner. In much the same manner anything more than
saying, "I just returned from a 2000 mile ocean voyage. Everything went well
as usual and it was a total success, thank you," would have the effect of
degrading my life, my crew and my vessel.

If you can't understand this you are no more a blue water sailor than the
rest of the wannabes around here with the exception of Ozone who is an
accomplished and experienced blue water sailor/racer with a ball sack
between his legs who views the wreck of the "Red Cloud" with a skeptical eye
just any other experienced voyager. Neither of us can abide the mentality of
rescue just because things get just a bit uncomfortable due to the fact we
were unprepared, ignorant and weak.
So, don't venture out upon the high seas unless you can handle it. If you
can't hack it then chicken out and call for a premature rescue then at least
accept responsibility for it and don't try to act like it happens to
everybody and is acceptable and seamanlike because it does not and is not.
