Default aussies and powercats?

Hi Albert,
Yes this type of craft is very popular in Ausralia & there are several
makers here.
PLEASE let me first say that this type of craft is a very diferent type of
boat that what most are used to & if you are serious about one then please
make VERY sure that you understand it's unique handling idiosyncrisies. It
IS different & does take a bit of getting used to. (if ever?)
Next thing is that they are big in North Queensland waters. WHY??
Mainly because the GREAT BARRIER REEF protects the entire North Queensland
coastline from everything big except maybe cyclones. One metre seas up there
are "frightening" to most boaties in North Queensland.
Now lets get one thing straight. These "cats" are nothing like a catamaran
yacht.
A brief description is that a "cat" has 2 bows to split the water & then
rapidly joins in the centre between the hulls which cushions the ride. In a
stiff headwind this CAN create a "blowing" effect which usually results in a
drenching for the windscreen. Imagins the boat crunching down & blowing out
from the front 50 gallons of water which then gets blown back into your
face???
I know you are referring to a larger craft, but in smaller ones, you
actually can have a small problem with the lack of gunwhale height from the
deck & most install Stainless railing to increase the safety facter. This is
because with two keels you don't get the "depth" in your boat that you get
in a normal boat.
About your Question about strength. That is no problem because like I said,
.... The two hulls are really only seperate for a bit at water level. I'll
try to post some addressess to some relevent sites. I did post these some
time back & are probable to be found in Google Groups.
