Have you been following the controversy about the military's contracting
out for a new tanker jet for aerial refueling of its jets? Lots of
"foreign content" in the winning bidder's proposal. There's not much
dumber than being dependent upon other nations for high-tech military
hardware.

Seriously. There is not an aircraft manufactured today that could not get
off the ground without foreign parts. Computers are a prime example, does
anyone in the US even make memory parts on American soil, let alone
production or protypes?

And given the sophistication of some of these components, how long would it
take the US to gear up in a protracted war to produce them? I would suggest
having a good supply on hand...
