Why was the Hornet going only 300 MPH?

Why not? IIRC their MCA is around 190. Not sure what they land at but
it's a dramatic sight.

Do the Marines have Hornets?

Of course, it's a naval fighter/attack plane. Who else but the Navy
and the Marines are interested in flying off (and back onto) carriers?

The Marines usually fly Harriers. I know they have some Hornets. I am
a retired military officer. The whole story stinks. The military
doesn't like to reveal any classified information.
