Here anyway lots of the ramps have weight limit signs posted these days
(usually saying max 3 or 5 tonnes without specific permission).

As people kept damaging the ramps with really really big boats (mostly
commercial) that could apply real force to the bottom of the ramp till
it cracked etc.

This is all fair enough really because here nobody really pays for
ramps, they're usually put in my the local council, which is essentially
funded by the rate payers, so it's a bit rich when commercial users come
along & wreck other peoples' infrastructure, they rarely leave a note:-)
