GOT THAT RIGHT ! ! Dont eat farm raised fish !
Lets see:
1) poor shrimp price. Infact the same it was 20 years ago. Why , just
about everything you buy in the fish case is imported farm raised
product with all the junk in the meet.
2) fuel price at unheard of price.
3) insurance prices go up
4) get a loan and pay $400K for a good shrimp boat.
5) GOM shrimp grounds are over fished and gettting harder to find the
bugs
6) NMFS responds to save the shrimp and reduces landings, resticts
areas and time open to shrimmping plus got turtle problmes so need to
lreduce the effecency of shrimp nets to EXCLUDE turtles.
now some simply cant make a buck and let their insurance laps
7) two huricanes hit the GOM and put the boats on the dirt.
Owners just walk a way from the boats cause no insurace or its a good
time to take the insuranc money and walk away.
Last year I could buy a $450K 90' shrimper in good condition for
$150-200K. A sweet 75 footer could be had for $100-130K.
Unbeliveable value for boat buyers while ripping the heart out of our
southern fishing communities. Whats a coonass to do now? go flip
burgers???? or maybe sail down to Beliez in hopes to sell coffee beans
in TX?
