Default Garmin 45 software update ?

Jean-Pierre Trolet wrote:
Hello,

Due to low batteries , my GPS has lost all its datas ... and also it
seems the 1999 software update ( EOW rollover story) , and so it
cannot acquire any satellite anymore. Anybody's got an idea where I
could get the software or any other idea ?
(Garmin has given up with the 45 - no support - no update)

Thanks

If the unit switches on and goes to the satellite page, but will not pick up
any satellites, it has probably "lost" the almanac from memory.

The successor to the 45, the 48, can be restored to full use by plugging
into a 12-volt supply, via the four-way plug at the back, switching it on,
and leaving for 24 hours or longer. This restores the internal 12-volt
battery and the memory.

I had a 48 which had given up the ghost, and I tried this about 4 years ago,
The unit has worked perfectly ever since. I do not know whether the 45 has
the same electronics but they are very similar in appearance so it's worth a
try.

It helps when you do finally have the unit in "searching the sky" mode if
you manually set the approximate location, lat. and long., and the local
time, as this speeds up the search considerably. You will need a power lead
for the 4-way plug preferably with a cigar-lighter plug at the other end, so
that you can leave it in the car overnight for instance.

These leads can be bought from Pfranc (Google for this).
