Default Garmin 45 software update ?

@news.wanadoo.fr:

Garmin has given up with the 45 - no support - no update

Garmin makes SURE their old GPS units will sell new units by making as many
things proprietary as possible so noone ELSE can manufacture chart plugs,
for instance, or update the software/charts stored in them.

This insures a constant steady revenue stream for Garmin as users are
forced to replace perfectly-good-and-functional units, like my Garmin 185
chart plotter/sonar chart unit, with new units at amazing prices...using
yet another proprietary, totally different, chart plug that will, in a
couple of years, be, yet again, unobtanium and impossible to update, a
recurring cycle.

Boaters and GPS buffs never seem to catch on to this scam, ensuring Garmin
a revenue stream far into the future.....

There's no support for the nice 185 chartplotter/sonar units, either. I
paid $12 for mine in a thrift shop in perfect condition, but missing the
sonar transducer and GPS antenna (which I found on Ebay cheap, too).

You need a new GPS.....one that doesn't say Garmin on it would be prudent.
