Well, I'm not going to totally disagree with you. But actually there
are several people here that do have quite a bit of boating
knowledge.
True, there's lots of BS that seems to liquidly flow though ehre on a
daily basis. But I'm not speaking for all, but I would say that for a
great many people that hang around here, this is off boat posting
season. Mine will be tucked away for at least another couple months
so... I'm not going boating for a while yet. Then I'll be posting
more
boating questions and experiences.
It does seem that year around, rec.boats.cuising does have less
blather and more boating posts IMO.
The newsgroup is filled with boatless posters, or posters with
boats who
have little or no interest in boating or fishing, or posters who know
next to nothing about boating, but are opinionated nonetheless.

The problems are exacerbated by the large number of "anonymous"
posters
infecting the newsgroup.

When usenet "outlaws" anonymous posting, usenet will once again become
useful.- Hide quoted text -

So what about so called non-anonymous posters (like yourself) whos
stated identity can not in any way be confirmed?
There are posters here who know my name, address and telephone
number, several with whom I have have exchanged checks amounting to
several hundreds of dollars or more, and several I have met personally.

My preferred "correction" for usenet would be for every post to have
listed in his/her headers his/her actual name and actual IP. That
would not prevent or interfere with the use of nicknames in here, but
at the same time would improve behavior and virtually eliminate the
anonyous posters who show up here only or mostly to crap.

I used to be opposed to moderated newsgroups. Not any more.

In most cases, the average Joe Blow has a dynamic IP that changes
frequently.

In my case, if I use Steve Gibson's (grc.com) reverse DNS it reports
an Embarq machine as my IP address. Nothing could be further from the
truth.

If you'd like to test yours, you can go he

My IP doesn't change often, and when it does, it usually is after the
internet provider loses signal and the local pool is reassigned. There
are ways to hide an IP or go through a server that provides another
number, of course, but I don't bother. What for? I'm not posting here
anonymously.

Why are you posting through two news servers?
