Default Gas Mileage

It would seem to me that GPH is not a very useful measurement but one
boaters have been stuck with because of the fluid nature of their
roadway. Now comes along very accurate distance measurement via GPS and
you should be able to come up with GPM just like a car. This to me
seems like a much more useful piece of info. Yowweee, another gismo
for the dash in the boat.

Miles per gallon isn't used because it varries so much depending on
sea condition, wind speed and direction, tide, amount of weight on the
boat (fuel, water, passangers, ect). Every time you change course it
will change, burn off fuel, it changes.

We've been able to measure distance very accurately long before GPS
ever came around.

No offense, but the statement about "Now comes along very
accurate...", I wouldn't make that statement if I were you. It shows a
clear lack of experiance, and knowledge, in navigation.
