Clean install on a new machine.

You know, I'm a windoze fan and have been since the very beginning, but
I am damned sick and tired of being told time and again, no matter the
version, "just do a clean install."

No offense to you. Really.

It takes days and days to do that sort of thing, and even after that
there is no guarantee whatever problem you had will be resolved, or that
you won't unleash some new dragon.

The answer to this sort of horror lies with Microsoft. It simply is not
doing the job it ought to be doing with these operating systems. They're
too vulnerable, they are too hard to diagnose, their tech support sucks
on these matters. It's not just with a beta like SP1 RC, it's generally.

I'm no linux fan, but at least with linux you don't get the support you
didn't pay for, as it were. :}

You didn't say how you first got Vista on your machine. Do you have a new
PC? Did you do an upgrade? If you have tried updates and still have
problems with Vista crashing, sometimes it is better to do a clean install
and start over. You will spend less time in the long run by doing this.
Yes, it's a pain in the A$$, but it just might be the lesser of two evils.

Not what you want to hear but sometimes it is all you can do.

This is what I get:

http://tinyurl.com/2tujwt

Error code 0x800736B3

I installed all the "pre" files properly and downloaded SP1.

Bombs out.

Also bombs when I try the download via VISTA Windows upgrade.

Nothing seems to download.

Any help for this?

Thanks
