Default Coast Guard Licensing of Recreational Boaters

Anybody know more about the CG License?

We've had licensing requirements here in Canada for some time
(graduated - first for kids, then smaller boats...or something. I got
mine early to get it over with). Many say it's a "tax grab" because
the exam is too easy, but I LIKE it: at least it makes boaters THINK
about safety, and make them aware that there are "rules of the road".
Hell, I need a license to drive my car, or my airplane (if I had
one...), why not for a boat?

As for decimating the boating industry, I don't think the license
requirement will, but I'd think a lot of border marinas (like Friday
Hbr) would be decimated if Canadian boaters like myself see all the
border requirements and say the HELL with visiting the US!
