Also the fact that the NIMBY's will not let new oil refineries be built.
That the refineries can not find enough Certified Welders to do the
upgrades needed. Maybe we need to ****can the teachers unions and
administrators that think all students should be College Prep track.

Did anyone else notice the date on that article? It was about the summer
of 2007, and was obviously wrong about the $4 gasoline.

You think it's the teachers fault everyone wants to go to college? The
average high school graduate earns an average of $1.2 million over his
working life. The average bachelor's degree holder earns around $2.1
million. It's supply and demand. You want more welders, pay more.

I paid $3.999 / gallon for diesel in Barstow Thanksgiving week. It is the
school administrations that decided everyone should go to college. Not the
students. 20% or so should go to college, that is the group that is both
smart enough and motivated to go to college. One of the reasons there is
such a high dropout rate from high and junior high school is the lack of
motivation. And boredom. Average welder, especially in the petroleum
industry is probably knocking down a $60-70k / year salary without overtime.
We also need automotive technicians, lots of skilled jobs not requiring
college degrees are wanting. Give the young people an insight into the real
world while in elementary, middle and high school. And a basis to make a
living.
