For the money we've *wasted* on the military in Iraq, we could have
rebuilt New Orleans, fixed the levees for real, made many needed
infrastructure improvements all over the United States, provided more
funding for S-CHIP, and sent thousands of needy students to college.
The worst thing this country has done since 1945 is waste so much of its
precious resources on the military. We could have done just as well with
much less. Might have kept us out of Vietnam, might have kept us out of
Iraq.
Spending unnecessary money on the military is worse than pouring it down
the drain.
My personal opinion is that a special 'war tax' should be applied when a
president wants to go to war.
It would be a pay as you go situation...not downloading the costs on future
generations by adding to the national debt.

I agree Harry, 2 trillion and counting, would have solved a lot of
problems here in the US although I still wouldn't like the idea that
it was all borrowed money.
Bowwowing money to pour down a rat hole in Iraq is simply
unconscionable.
It's part of the Communist conspiracy to bury us. But this time in debt.
Further, if we want to give our military something useful to do, modify
the laws a bit and put 'em to work on the borders...of the USA. Most
Americans would be glad to see U.S. solders, marines, whatevers, on our
borders, keeping illegals and terrorist wanna be's out.
