The weather here is very fine indeed, come on down.
I've been carrying around a spare Furuno chart plotter on the GB
because it was on sale at a good price last year and thought that I'd
network it into the lower helm at some point. Last week I decided
that its proper role during the winter would be on our SeaRay runabout
and ordered a separate GPS antenna and mounting kit. Yesterday
afternoon, after getting all that installed and working, it seemed
fitting to go out for a sea trial (any excuse will do). The weather
was near perfect and the sea trial turned into a 65 mile run down the
Caloosahatchie River, up Matlacha Pass on the east side of Pine
Island, around Bokeelia on the north end, over to Boca Grande on the
Gulf, past Cayo Costa Island, Cabbage Key, Useppa Island and back home
via the Gulf Coast ICW. The boat was running well, averaging 26 to 28
kts and conditions were just ideal. Oh yes, the Furuno worked very
well also but is somewhat overkill for the job.
