Jim, take a little cruise of Maemo Mapper, a freeware Google Earth that's
connected to the WAAS/GPS bluetooth receiver for the Nokia N800 Linux
internet tablet. It put you within 3' of the Virtual Earth, Google Earth
or the great topographical maps of Terra Server....all free sources of
data for it. The maps download on-the-fly, or you can preload them into
the memory cards if you don't have a bluetooth data link to your
cellphone.

Watch the video:

Here it is in France:

The little GPS receiver is packaged with commercial Navicore nav
software, which is totally separate from the hacker's Maemo Mapper. It
drives you with audio and map routes. Here it is in action:

It's a full computer with lots of other functions besides navigation.
While navigating, with the bluetooth connected through your cellphone or
any wifi that will let you in, you can use email, webpages, talk on Skype
or Google Talk (full webcam video on Google Talk from tiny cam that pops
out) or other VoIP phone services, get weather and marine warning
information in realtime just like you can on your web browser at home.

Lots great boat things it can do....besides being able to zoom Google
Earth in on that creek over there to see where it goes before going up
it...(c;
