It's just to get the local prosecutor off the hook. Grand juries around
here have been pretty reluctant to charge anyone injuring or killing
someone commiting a crime. Another local grand jury refused to indite a
man that shot a burgular as he was fleeing. He won't be charged.

I've been robbed a couple of times myself. It's not a good feeling
to know someone helped themselves of things you've worked so hard
for. I know if I came home and someone was in the act of *shopping*
in my home/shop, I don't know if I'd have the restraint to keep my foot
from slipping either. Knowing how the guy feels *now* I believe I
would
think twice about ramming their vehicle though.

Here's an interesting twist on the subject:

Actually is not a rarely used law. If a death happens during a felony there
has been lots of use of the law against the other bad guys. The death can
be a bad guy or a good guy, but the issue is that a death was caused by the
felonious action. And the county may be a majority white, but is also a
couple of major Indian tribes that have had shoot outs over their casino
ownership. Plus lots of blacks live in the area As well as lots of low
lifes whites. We used to own property there and were looted at least once.
