It takes a lot more education, training, and skill to become a
steamfitter than it does to become a college graduate.
Harry - give it up - please, you are making an ass of yourself.
4 years for a college grad. 5 years for a steamfitter.
Eh?
Do they get paid during those 5 years?
What difference does that make?
A huge difference.
When one becomes "union", one immediately gets all the benefits of being so,
as long as your dues are up to date.
Paid apprenticships.
Paid journeymen status.
Union provided security.
If you screw up, the union has a gazillion lawyers to protect you.
The otherwise competent non-union guys probably go out of business and may
lose their houses as well.
There are very good and qualified union tradespeople out there.
There are also very good and qualified non-union tradespeople as well.
