Right now, I am in the market for a Hammond XK3 with the smaller Leslie.
I
don't have room for a full B3, but the XK3 is a very accurate duplication
of
the B3 sound. It even has tube pre-amps in it.
It is very close, but there is nothing like the B3. They can't
duplicate the famous "key click" which was part of the character of
the B3.
That was part of Hammond's objection to the sound. They've done a good job
duplicating it in the XK3. There's some sound samples available on the web
if you search for them.
My problem is that I don't want to buy "online". I am trying to find a
brick and mortar type music shop within reasonable driving distance because
I want to customize the package.
Of course, if Harry knows of a new B3 and full Leslie, I might change my
mind. This is crazy, but currently we have two grand pianos in our house,
one acoustical, the other electronic.
If I found a real B3 with Leslie that were in excellent condition, I'd
seriously think about replacing one of them.
