Default Height to mount a spinnaker pole ring

All, I have a Catalina 310 and want to mount a spinnaker pole ring. A
car appears to be out of the question as I have an electrical track
that runs up the front of the mast. I have a Forespar pole ring that I
can mount to the mast. One suggestion I got for mounting height was to
put it at eye level. For most of the time it would be used to pole out
my genoa (I have a 135) with occasional flying of a spinnaker. Ideas
on height?

A height that's good for poling out a genoa will probably be too low
for a spinnaker.

"About eye level" is not a bad guide; it depends a lot on how tall you
are and doesn't take into account the size of the spinnaker. But it
should be somewhere in that area for an average sizes person on a 30-
ish ft cruiser-racer.

You can get a more precise idea by looking at a sailplan of the boat
that includes the spinnaker luff. A Catalina dealer should be able to
get you one, or you can call Catalina yourself and ask to speak with
Gerry Douglas.
