I had the same concern with my 4-stroke having put only about 12 hours on
it this season. How come we are getting two radically different opinions
here?

I called Honda; if they said to let it go I figured that would be
definitive. But they said to change it. I don't take that as resolving
it though; naturally they are going to take the conservative route to hold
down warranty claims.
But I am going to change it. Probably a waste of oil, but that beats a
waste of an engine.


Good grief... what does it hold ..a thimble full?
If you lay the outboard up... do the winterizing schedule.. change oil, gear
lubricant, run some treated gas (with stabilizer) through the motor before
cutting off the supply. I'd also drain my fuel tank, fog my cylinder and
keep that tiny motor in the basement for the winter.
