I want to install my battery in the bow of my 16 foot skiff. The

The total cable length will be 18 feet, no breaks. What guage wire do
I need to use, do I need to use something as big as a car like 4
guage, or can I use 8?? How many amps does a typical 25 horse draw?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As I stated previously on r.b, 8 guage should be fine.
I use eight ga for a five horse electric motor[or a drier,or a stove].
I don't see more than a one half[1] horse starter on a 25 hp engine. I
used to hand start one of those 25 evinrudes. It had no starter, just
a handle you pulled. It wouldn't work with the battery near the
engine? I suppose there is some trim issue. There _is_ a trim
adjustment on the motor. I would avoid the long cables if I could,
every thing they do by being longer is bad: cost, weight, voltage
drop, energy waste. It would not be out of the question to take the
engine to an auto electrical shop and have them measure the cranking
current. Did you try asking the Evinrude people? Or a dealer's
mechanic.
1. About the same current as a five horse AC moter.
