I have a 95 Bayliner 2452 5.0 L Mercruiser. I suspect starter is
getting weak so I purchased a new one. I then noticed that replacing
the starter looks like a difficult task. I thought it would be wise
to ask other owners how they replaced the starter in such cramped
environment. Thank you for any advice you can lend.
The thing is, the starters usually don't usually get "weak". They
either work, or they don't. before I went to all the pain to change
the starter motor, I would have the battery tested,a nd clean all
connections, including the ground cable, to where it attaches to the
engine block.
I already changed out the key switch. Now I have a new slave solinoid
that I will try next. I bought the starter just in case. I will
clean the cables next.
I live in Alaska, so it is good to have parts on hand since the
boating season is so short. The boat is 12 years old and all original
so it may be good to change out the starter if I can anyway. Thanks
for your suggestion.
