Default Need Bayliner 2452 Starter Replacement Procedure

I have a 95 Bayliner 2452 5.0 L Mercruiser. I suspect starter is
getting weak so I purchased a new one. I then noticed that replacing
the starter looks like a difficult task. I thought it would be wise
to ask other owners how they replaced the starter in such cramped
environment. Thank you for any advice you can lend.

Welcome to the club. I take it that the engine is a 305 c.i.d GM
(Chevy)?

Yeah it's cramped.besides a bracket that attaches the end of the
starter to the block, there are a couple bolts that run up though the
starter motor to hold it against the engine block. chances are these
are 15 mm bolts. there is no easy procedure! taking the bolts out
droping the starter, disconnecting the cable and wires (provided you
disconnected the battery first) then to install the starter you
reverse the process. only be prepared to fight it harder, because they
always come off easier than they re-install.
