The problem was they were Carlisle tires.

Arrrgh. I have four "Trail America" tires on my new trailer. Probably
made in North Korea by a subsidiary of the Carlisle-Goodyear
Conglomerate. Both of those companies, Carlisle and Goodyear, have had
some serious problems with their trailer tires.
