Just bought a brand-new Merc 9.9 4-stroke. When cold, it won't start at
idle: I have to push the "high idle" button and give it some throttle. Is
this normal, or should a brand-new engine start at idle, even when cold?


I normally have to give my 9.9 Nissan a bit of gas to get it to start
anytime!

I never considered it an issue....
