Three inches of water throughout. Power out for 36 hours.
First time to see it in 10 years I've been here, and the former owner
only saw some puddles in 1962.
Torrential rain, streets flowing like rivers, overstressed storm
sewers.
Trivial when you see what others are going through, and even
most of my neighbors got 5-12".
Do yourself a favor if you buy a house by checking elevation and
watersheds carefully. A couple feet can make a huge difference.
I didn't do it here, but got lucky. I could just have well ended up
by the Des Plaines River, which got hit hard.
Global Warming can be a bitch.

Sorry to hear that Vic. Our basement flooded early morning July 4, 2006
due to heavy rains and a sump pump going out so I know what you are now
going through.

Thanks, Jim. Though it's trivial given what has happened to others,
it's still no fun. Seeing it happen so often to others I never felt
immune, so made it a rule to never fully finish my basements, and
suffered no real losses, just tossing a few things I didn't have time
to get off the floor. Cleaning up and setting up fans to dry out
is the bulk of the work.
Nothing like the disasters some have suffered. I actually feel lucky.
