I am going to be working on a Pearson 26 rudder. I have looked at the
webpages that come up on web searchs for Pearson 26's. They do not
mention if the rudder shaft is solid or a tube filled with resin.

Can you get at the top of the shaft for a look? Most are hollow in my
experience except for the smaller ones.

Maybe. There might be a cap where the tiller attaches. I removed the
top shaft collar bolt that might have held a cap on. It is to dirty
and gray slimmy to tell if there is a small seam for a cap. Perfect
circular wear grooves from the outside bushing might also be mistaken
for a cap seam.

And I was afraid to bang on the possible cap. How hard would I, bang
and/or wrench? If it is a cap it is exactly the same diameter as the
shaft/?tube.

Thanks for the idea though.
