As tragic and regretable as these deaths are, Bert is correct -- such
incidents are an inevitable part of combat. In both Gulf Wars, weapon
technology has so increased that it makes the so-called friendly fire deaths
stand out greatly in bold relief. Figure for the first Gulf War is about
35%, for Gulf II about 9% as of May, 2003. Estimates for WW-II vary
considerably, from 2% to 20% -- 2% would equate to about 8000 deaths.
Additionally, I recall reading that there were about 20,000 French civilians
killed from D-Day onward.
